Now accepting samples for the 9th annual Top 25 list

It seems hard to believe that the first Top 25 list was published in 2001. Actually it was a Top 20 list then and only grew in size the following year. How many of you remember this graphic from the first one?
Since I wrote the first three at Dean & Deluca and the next four at Vinfolio, I am getting set to publish the second I have done independently.
I put Lulu in charge of coordinating samples and she reported this week that the response has been a little slow. We chalked that up to most likely having to do with harvest overload among winemakers. If you have ignored her email because you have not had a chance to meet her before, you are missing out. I think you find her picture in the OED next to the definition for charming.
So now I am posting an open request for sample submittal for the 2009 Top 25 list. Lulu will be very pleased about this as she suggested I do it (in her very polite way) several weeks ago. Here is the criteria for the types of samples I am requesting.
- Made in California, Oregon or Washington State
- Production level under 2500 cases for the individual wine
- Retail price range $25 - $200
- Two bottles of each wine
- If your wine has been included in any of the previous years and don’t meet the second and third, you are still welcome to submit
- Please provide notes with production, winemaker, and website information
We hope to have all of wines assembled by the end of November as historically it is something vintners and consumers look forward to in December and January. You may reach Lulu Roberts by email at lulu@wildernapavalley.com. She will direct you to have the wines delivered to either Calistoga or San Francisco.
